About

Juyeon Song is a  Dramatic soprano and visionary producer whose artistry transcends the boundaries of opera, film, and performance art. She is celebrated as the first Asian soprano to both sing and produce Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde (concert version)—a landmark achievement in which she performed the title role of Isolde while also producing the live concert recording.

During the global lockdown, Song transformed isolation into creation, producing three award-winning artistic films that explore the intersection of music, emotion, and visual storytelling. Her debut film, Thy Name Is Woman, became Academy-qualified and received numerous international accolades. Her second film—also Academy-qualified—is set to premiere next year. Inspired by the emotional depth of opera and reframed through a modern cinematic lens, her works bridge classical tradition and contemporary storytelling with profound visual and emotional resonance.

When performance halls around the world fell silent during the pandemic, Song redefined artistic expression through resilience and innovation. Guided by her vision of “art without boundaries,” she collaborated with internationally award-winning director Selcuk Cara to produce three films that became catalysts for bold multicultural projects, using cinema as their unifying language. This female-led venture stands as both a quiet act of resistance and a powerful statement of renewal—an artistic testament to imagination, endurance, and creative transformation.

Her partnership with Cara—an internationally acclaimed film director, best-selling author, screenwriter, opera singer, stage director, and former Director of the European Capital of Culture—has yielded works of rare emotional and visual intensity: intimate yet monumental, lyrical yet globally expansive.

Building upon these achievements, Juyeon Song is now developing her next major endeavor: the Interdisciplinary, Multicultural, and Multidimensional Project — Live Performance, a groundbreaking experience that will bring all three of her films to the stage. This immersive performance will unite opera, world music, dance, and visual art into a single creative universe. The concept will ultimately evolve into twelve interconnected projects, each exploring contemporary narratives through either classical scores or newly commissioned compositions.

Collaborating with distinguished international artists across diverse disciplines, Song continues to redefine opera for the 21st century—fusing film, music, and performance into a shared artistic language that transcends culture and speaks directly to the human spirit.

Currently, Juyeon Song is preparing a world tour featuring live performances of her multidisciplinary film projects—an ambitious realization of her vision to transform opera and cinema into a unified, global art form.
